Rulings and Sunnah of Eid al-Fitr:

Prophet Muhammad used to do the following on the day of Eid (Sunnah), May Allah’s peace and blessings are upon him)Muslims should observe the following steps on Eid day:

1st step: All the Muslims should wake up early on Eid day.

2nd step: take a ghusal after fajr

It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth in al-Muwatta’ and elsewhere that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to do ghusl on the day of al-Fitr before going out to the prayer-place in the morning. Al-Muwatta’ 428.

Al- Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is mustahabb to do ghusl for Eid prayer.

3rd step: you should eat an odd number of dates before leaving offering the Eid prayer because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not set out on the day of Eid until he had eaten an odd number of dates. He should stick to an odd number as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did.

4thd step: Clean teeth with Maswak or Brush your teeth.

5th step: Wear the best or new clothes and also wear perfume.

6th step: Muslims should continue saying Takbeer (praising Almighty Allah) from the time they leave for prayers until the prayer is started.

In the first rak’ah the imam should recite Sabbih isma rabbika al-A‘ala (Soorat al-A’la 87) and in the second rak’ah he should recite Hal ataaka hadeeth ul-ghaashiyah (al-Ghaashiyah 88). Or he may recite Soorat Qaaf (50) in the first and Soorat al-Qamar (54) in the second. Both options are narrated in saheeh reports from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

7th step: The Prophet used to go to the Eid Prayer location by one route and will return through another route.

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: On the day of Eid, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to vary his route. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 986.

8th step: Muslims are ordered to pay Zakat al Fitr on the day of Eid al-Fitr. This is a special kind of charity which is counted as Zakat al-Fitr only if it is given on the day of Eid before Eid prayers or a day or two earlier than Eid.muslims should pay it one or two days before that, because of the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) which was narrated by al-Bukhaari: “They used to give it one or two days before (Eid) al-Fitr.”

9th step: after and pray for the acceptance of worship, they have done during the month of Ramadaan.

It is great Sunnah to come back home from a different way than the one was used to come to the prayer areas.
